Good morning to you. I trust that you had a good yesterday and your today is filled with promise.
Years ago, a pastor read, ‘A certain man was going down from Jericho…’ His sermon title – ‘Are you certain?’ We laughed as children, but today’s Holy Nougat also begins with that terminology.
“Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.” John 11:1 ASV
In the Nougat we realize that the details offered about Lazarus are very precise. His name, his village, and the chief ‘Jesus followers’ belonging to the village. He wasn’t just any other body who happened to be in need of help – this was Lazarus! He was, in the language of the day, a ‘certain’ man. It had nothing to do with his spiritually but his individual identity.
Have you stopped to consider that in God’s eyes you are a ‘certain’ person? That is, you are your own individual self, not to be confused with another. You are one of a kind (even if you’re gifted with a twin or multiple others as part of your particular birth experience). God knows you (& I) by name, location and the key people in our lives.
Sounds kinda scary if all isn’t going right in our behavior. Yet, it is also reason for hope, joy and praise. For we know that God is never asleep or unaware of what is happening (Psalm 121:4)! Now, even greater than knowing our individual self; God is also familiar with our internal self – the bits and pieces which don’t function as they ought as well as the parts which no one else is privy to (Psalm 139:13-14).
I can’t explain why some persons experience what they do (& wouldn’t try to) or why it seems some of us are more favored than others (I KNOW I am a special certain person); but what I wish to assure you today is that God SEES you, KNOWS you, and LOVES you in all you are doing and going through.
Today, you are God’s certain person! And God has a love plan for you!
