How are ya? Blessed and blessing I hope. In some traditions, October is pastor appreciation month. In others, it’s ongoing; and elsewhere it never happens. Whichever you are familiar with is fine, however I invite you to consider today’s Holy Nougat
“Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.” Galatians 6:6 NLT
For me, this isn’t only an pastors, but also refers to church school teachers or some of those subscription courses we are involved in. Before you send for my head, I am agreeing that some teachers are only seeking wealth, to the extent that their integrity is questionable. But a) not all are like that; b) some truly need support and c) the Nougat didn’t say pay with money, rather it speaks to provision of support, as needed.
This verse is within the context of the Pauline admonition for us to bear each other’s burdens, to esteem each other in high regard and avoid being disrespectful to God by our in/direct actions.
So as one of whom this speaks, might I suggest that you pray for church workers. God has called us to ministry and we have answered, but we are still human. Frailties, fleshy and fighting our various battles. We need ALL the prayers we can get. Having prayed (with genuineness of heart and spirit), Listen to the Spirit’s instruction – what are you supposed to do next? If and when prompted, send a card , a note of encouragement or do so in person. Tell us that you prayed for us.
And if moved to give tangible gifts, give generously – again as led by God’s Spirit – not grudgingly nor with intent to manipulate. For, of a Truth, we do have material needs, and we might not have the courage to articulate. Or we might be trusting God to provide through someone who could verily be you.
Whatever happens though, especially in the smaller congregations where the one who teaches/preaches might not be otherwise employed, please don’t withhold fiscal-material support out of spite!!!! And if urged to provide tangible support, don’t tell the person that you’re praying when you don’t plan to follow God’s leading to give!
Remember tho, especially in these times when some teachers of God’s Word have been preying rather than praying; we NEED and crave ongoing prayers to keep us focused and on track! For, as you strengthen us with the prayers, we are better equipped to strengthen you spiritually and provide other caregiving support.
