Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Assyrian chief of staff, “Please speak to us in Aramaic, for we understand it well. Don’t speak in Hebrew, for the people on the wall will hear.”” Isaiah 36:11 NLT
All they required was respect. A strange expectation under the circumstances. They were being given notification for war by the Assyrian emmisaries! Perhaps they knew the request would not be answered in the affirmative, but wanted to register their request for dignity.
Have you ever been in that position? Probably not with a potential enemy, but in your prayer life? Where you’re tempted to ask the Lord for gentleness in response so that you might be spared embarrassment? Or praying God silences the preacher’s/prophet’s mouthy before they give voice to your secrets publicly?!.
What if God ignores the request? Do we still pursue worship and intimacy? God’s desire is Not to embarrass us publicly; so if it really is the Voice of God, let’s consider why a public dressing down (was your name even called, or was the situation described in enough details to convict)
- Has God been seeking our attention previously? (Have we been avoiding God, and is this a Paul-ine conversion?)
- Is God about to reveal Gods glory and this provides the background (maybe it’s not the bad stuff which will be revealed – that happens too, trust me)
- Could this be a turning point; a moment of decision?
We should not be willing to seek God’s favour to the exclusion of God’s correction. So, let’s examine our hearts and allow God to highlight areas which would benefit from repentance and rededication.
Search me oh God, and know my heart today … See if there be some wicked ways in me, Cleanse me from every sin …
