How do we handle success? Do we forget our roots, or are we open to helping others along the way? Do we acknowledge God’s role in our success? This frames our reflections around today’s Holy Nougat
“But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. Deuteronomy 8:11 NLT
Strange isn’t it; that we would forget our God and perhaps our faith in times of plenty. There might even be the temptation to say this will never be the case. Unfortunately, for many of us; abundance spawns the sense of individuation (arrogance/self importance) where we maintain the notion that success is by our efforts and none other.
Additionally, when one considers the very human tendency to affirm power and ‘success’; one can see how easily the Nebuchadnezzar virus may hit. [He began to survey ‘his’ dominion and got caught up in pride up the extent that he was brought low in his madness]
As recommended in today’s nougat; the antidote for such behaviour is found in the intimate relationship we maintain with God. Thus we obey God’s laws out of a desire to please and honour The One who has gifted us with the blessings we enjoy daily.
We maintain the intimacy through conversations (prayer), time together (communal worship and Bible reading), and sharing with others as parents would brag about their young ones.
