Miracles are real and still occur today. Not everyone has the same gift. Some are unaware of our own gifts and yearn for those manifested by others. Consider, for example, today’s Holy Nougat
“Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?”” Acts of the Apostles 19:14-15 NLT
These were sons of the priests at work. I don’t know what their motive was, but for certain they were not tapped in to the Power. Unfortunately, so too are many of us.
We may be pastors or spiritual leaders in our own right; and if we are not personally connected to the Power Source, we run the risk of ‘trying a thing.’ Or worse, we become perpetrators of spiritual abuse by misguiding those who follow us.
And, in a world where people are literally dying for experiences of the supernatural; it becomes far too easy to get caught up with sensationalism.
So do we simply lump everyone in the same category? And do we ignore our own spiritual gifts for fear of being presumed charlatans? Do we deny that we have the desire for a) helping others; b) status, power, and/or privileges; or c) manifesting spiritual gifts?
Perhaps not. Nor do we ignore the gift God has blessed us with. However, we check in with God’s Spirit – both in receiving/affirming the miraculous, and in manifesting the gift God has blessed us with. And we definitely don’t go ‘trying a thing’ like the sons of Sceva!
God’s gifts are ours for the taking; not the faking. And we are blessed with the opportunity to make a difference as we have been blessed. May God’s glory be revealed through us as we use the gifts wisely today, tomorrow and always.
