We’re almost certainly committed today’s Holy Nougat to memory by now (), and maybe we’ve got a handle on the promises; but permit another 2, as we continue to unpack the implications for our lives.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NIV
Having given the final directive to the disciples, Jesus promised; ‘I am with you’; the same sentiment expressed here. A note of encouragement – it’s okay if you’re not perfect as I’m here to help. It doesn’t matter if you are abandoned by others, I’m claiming you. Whether or not you have got this, I’m on your team. Come he’ll or high water, I’ve got you covered! No worry yuh self mon, every little thing’s gonna be alright!
And here’s the best part – it’s a promise we can count on. We might not feel the presence of God every single step of the way, but if we think about it, we might be able to remember instances when God turned up and turned things around. Just in time. Without any effort on our part. And when we least expected.
This isn’t new, for Our God is also the God Who busted Paul and Peter outta jail on separate occasions AND Who moved an entire nation worth of people out of bondage. I am sure we can trust God to handle our day to day routines.
We live in a world where committo-phobia is more real than the made up-ness of the word I’ve coined to describe it. Divorce is almost as common as marriage, and we don’t wish to confirm affiliation to anything that’s not proven to be successful. And, unfortunately, in many cases, we run at the first sign of failure with the situation.
But that’s not God’s Word. Even when fear expedites other embarrassing bodily functions, or renders us silent, or situations eliminate anticipated support; God assures us today, ‘I am WITH you!’ I sincerely hope that it brings comfort when the going gets rough.
