Hello
How are you? Is it that time of year as yet, when the spring cleaning begins? Not necessarily my favorite task, but a necessity nevertheless.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1 KJV
Actually, for those in the cold, it may be a little early for regular spring cleaning, we need to get some more of the frosty, wintry, mushy weather behind us. But the timing is perfect for a spiritual spring clean.
I agree, there is a sense in which we cannot effect the changes within our soul; but the change begins with us being ready to access release from the burdens which are impeding our relationship with the Lord. You know, like jealousy, worry, anger, lust, petty theft, ‘white’ lies (a lie is a lie), unforgiveness … and the list may go on.
The reality is unconfessed, harbored sin creates a gap in our relationship with God, and that gap could affect our prayer life and eventually our entire spiritual life, especially if it prohibits is being true when we approach the Lover of our souls.
When sin becomes a weight which we lug around, it gets in the way of our witness. Especially with the naysayers who would rather judge God based on the testimony of our lives, and also definite the terms of our early relationships based on their perception of our integrity.
So how about it, will we
All the Lord to reveal those deadweights which have cluttered our lives
Confess that we have sinned
Seek forgiveness for the sins (Psalm 51 is a great place to begin)
Invite the Lord to remove that sin permanently
Be willing to overcome temptation so that it does not become/remain a besetting sin
Change our habits such that the same sins are not as easily included in our lives.
It’s not necessarily fun. It’s definitely time consuming. But the relational benefits with God make it worth the while.
Thanks for joining in this Divine feast
God bless you
In Christ
