Greetings. A new week begins, at the end of which, we will be in a new month. How well have you spent these first five months? May we be found faithful.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Matthew 19:22 NLT
A testimony of a friend describing God’s provision includes the concept of being a part-time Christian. The friend declared, “I had God in one hand, the world in the other”. The testimony later spoke about the impact of God’s transforming power upon her life which resulted in the displacement of the world from “the other hand.”
Unfortunately, many Christians have surrendered to the lie that part-time Christianity is real and viable, becoming sidetracked by ‘stuff’, to the detriment of their witness. Yet Jesus made a very clear statement which challenged the protagonist’s spiritual self-definition, to the extent that he walked away.
As we reflect on how well we have spent these first five months, perhaps we might seek to ‘get rid of the possessions’ which would prohibit our relationship with Christ, and even our witness to the wider world. Moreover, perhaps we might consider what spiritual virtues we would desire to fill the gap created by the displaced possessions.
