Hi
In recent times there have been issues which could be cause for persecution on one’s views or religious base. Sometimes I wonder whether I would be proven faithful in the moment, or if like Peter, I’ll be found wanting … having denied Christ, despite all my protestations to the contrary prior to the test.
And on that note, let’s pause to peruse today’s Holy Nougat™
Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him, “You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.” Matthew 26:69 NLT
So there he sat. Warming himself by the fire. I checked; yes it was him. He looked just like that fellow I saw by the Galilean seaside that day the Rabbi fed the exceptional crowd. He was … Uhm hmm. He was one of those who collected the basket of leftovers.
Yes. I remembered him clearly. He and his brother and that other bloke whom they said were part of the Inner Circle of the Rabbi. In fact I think he was the one they said walked on water with the Rabbi.
I started thinking to myself, “If I were to start up a conversation with him; maybe about his faith, he could perform a miracle for me”. I walked over, forgetting how serious the times were.
“You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.”, I said. He denied it so rapidly I almost fell over in shock. I began to doubt that it was he; but I never forget a face. Moreover, after he said no; he quickly moved from the fireside and made his way elsewhere.
But he didn’t leave. Shortly after, one other person … or was it two persons ? Hmmmn, never matter. At least one man tried to link him to the Rabbi and he practically swore at the man while insisting that it wasn’t him.
A rooster crowed. He raced out of the courtyard like a condemned man. I didn’t get my miracle that night.
But the gods smiled on me that night for the next day as I went with the water to clean the blood from the courtyard after they beat the Rabbi; He looked at me and it was well.
A pity about that Inner Circle man, though. Perhaps another time he’ll admit to knowing Him.
[{Shakes head and wipes eyes}]
Get up girl. Quit your wool-gathering and get back to work. Time’s a wasting.
