Today’s Holy Nougat is a challenge to us as it questions our commitment to receiving ‘more’ from our worship.
“So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship,”. Acts of the Apostles 8:27 NLT
Modern travel estimates indicate that Ethiopia is 2 days away from Jerusalem BY car. I think we can safely deduce that that would be the minimum time the eunuch took to get there.
Two days.
For a singular worship experience.
In a relatively foreign country.
That’s either exceptionally foolhardy or extremely dedicated.
But his travel was not in vain. For along the way, he met Phillip, who was sent by God for that divine appointment. God could have met him at the national treasury; or anywhere else in Ethiopia; but that meeting began with a clear act of faith.
We are not provided with the back story to the eunoch’s decision; for the protagonist was actually Phillip, but one can surmise that the Eunice was searching. He was earnestly seeking God’s face. Despite being confused by some aspects of the Word. Regardless of his official status. One might argue he was not wishing to be recognized. But he was searching. And actively so. Perhaps he prayed, ‘Lord if You are with me; send help’. Maybe he was just singularly confused. One thing’s for sure – he was determined.
And he was open to a God encounter.
Which directs the spotlight on us. Are we open for our own God encounter? How determined are we to have our own life-changing worship experience in God’s presence? Enough to leave our comfort zone and spaces of familiarity? To step out into the unknown with only the assurance that we anticipate an extreme move of God.
Lord, I am ready for Your fresh day; I am ready to worship in Spirit and Truth. Pour out as I seek Your face, Almighty God. I offer You my all: position, privilege and passions: for fresh experiences of You in my life dear Jesus. Please meet me at my point of need I pray my Lord and my God. Infuse my life with Your Fire; Spirit of God. In Jesus name I pray Amen
