On seeing his brothers after many years; Joseph checked them to see whether they had changed. They had. He revealed his identity and the brothers were very worried. For they KNEW what they put Joseph through. The abuse. The trafficking. The lies. The pretense. Not one of those truly afforded them a moment’s grace.
– Not abuse by throwing him into the dry pit (possibly overrun with killer snakes)
– Not trafficking him to the traders and keeping the money
– Not lying to their father by faking his death
– Not maintaining that pretense through the years
Yet Joseph looked past those offenses to see and focus on God’s Purpose.
He started anew with them. Acknowledged the wrongs. Dismissed them. Named his bigger picture. Forgave them.
That is not easy.
But by God’s power.
Any testimony of forgiveness or being forgiven in human relationships? What lessons did we learn?
