So there I was, praying once again and ‘out of nowhere’ thoughts of work began streaming in. The things I forgot to do, things I needed to think about and things I wanted God to help me with.
Before I could stop myself like I’d done a few times before I heard the very poignant question,
Is YHWH only God of work; or has work become your god?
The question stung. But when I considered how distracted my prayer times had gotten, and I finally acknowledged the wedge that had begun to drive in my relationship with God, I had a moment’s pause. Especially when I apologized and resumed and the same thing happened again.
There was no scope for excuses, I caught myself at it. And though my work was ministry-related; I needed that away time to restore me and be friends and child with Adonai once again.
It is easy to get distracted by other things. But it’s DANGEROUS to allow those little distractions to take over our lives to the extent that we become servants to it. Keep today’s Holy Nougat in full focus
““I am ADONAI your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:2-3 TLV
No other Gods. Not even one.
And to help us remain on track, let’s as ourselves, what or where has Adonai brought us from? We each have a story – even when we think it’s not Blockbuster worthy, and our God-experiences may feature among them. What do we remember about those experiences that would increase our need or desire to worship YHWH like never before? Perhaps we could begin our praise there.
What are the things which detract and distract from our true worship? That’s the god in-the-making right there. Time to restore it to its rightful place. Secondary to loving Adonai above ALL else and also secondary to loving our neighbors as we love ourselves .
Those are priority.
Lord Adonai,
Help us to appreciate the gifts You have bestowed upon us, individually and collectively. To praise You for each of them and not take them for granted. At the same time dear God, please jostle is out of our ruts which cause us to take You, the true Gift-giver, for granted. Today we praise You for all the gifts, beginning with the gift of life and the opportunity for new beginnings right now.
Teach us how to love and worship You above ALL else Elohim, for without You we are nothing. Forgive us please and restore us to Your love. We ask in the name of Y’shua, amen
