“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1 NLT
No, this is not an invitation to civil disobedience. It is instead an invitation to be Spirit-led in a society burdened by slavish adherence to rituals. Although the phrase ‘having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof’ was not used in this epistle; it is so apt.
In other words, we’ve mastered the form of being in worship, at/in church, but have we truly been worshiping God?
For some, obsession with the virus and the pandemic at large has consumed our focus. Others have become preoccupied with appearances or securing tithes and offering rather than securing a place in eternity. Some are not any different now than before as we are more interested in the gospel of condemnation and not the Gospel of Salvation in Christ Jesus.
These times demand a different approach to our faith. And this new approach MUST BE Spirit led. For it is only in Christ that we are truly saved – here wherever we are, and more importantly, for eternity. It’s time to make our calling and election sure. In Christ alone.
Perhaps these uncertain times are God’s wake up call to do relationships differently, especially our God relationship. No pretense. Us and God in true intimacy. No filters. Just a desire to be with God for God’s sake and not out of duty.
We are free.
