Hello
Yesterday at camp, someone mentioned knowing God’s will for their lives. While much of that is personal, some aspects are universal.
Let’s chew on that with today’s Holy Nougat™
Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. Jude 1:23 NLT
Sounds like the cliche about the church being a firefighter may be true. But, instead of appearing AFTER trouble, were supposed to be preemptive by rescuing folks from the Fire.
Rescue the perishing. Not necessarily as easy as it sounds. Some may seem to be beyond our reach. Some may be very clear about remaining where they are. And others might seem to be repeat roasters. But, if we remain focused on our purpose … Snatch from flames (without judgement or discrimination), then we just might be fulfilling our firefighters’ role.
We’re reminded to love without reservation, remembering that we ought not be drawn by sinful activities. So while we snatch souls from the flames, it is incumbent on us to be fully covered in protective gear (See Ephesians 6:10-19). Although the reference for armour doesn’t mention fires, remember – a firefighter fights fires. Prayer, Quiet Time in the Word, continued association with others in the Faith, are some ways to counter the encroaching flames of rescuing others.
Prayer … For self and others
Quiet Time with the Word … To hone discernment skills (night vision skills, yes)
Association with the faithful … Increases accountability and strengthens our support
Lord, Grant us boldness to be firefighters for you. Increase our desire to be fully equipped with gear and hazmat/firefighting equipment. Help us to be more passionate about saving those who are on the verge of being engulfed in flames. Hear our prayer please Jesus. Amen
In Christ
