Hello
I’m extremely late today, aren’t I. I apologize. How was your date? Haven’t tried it as yet? There’s still time. Great, wanna repeat? Awesome! Not so good, stuff got in the way? Let’s try again some time soon.
Here’s your Holy Nougat™ for Today
And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Luke 4:8
Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? We’re Christian (or God-fearing, I’m still praying for a few stubborn folks), we go to church very regularly (perhaps unwillingly), and we’re involved in church and charitable work.
That’s it, in the bag! One way ticket to Heaven.
That’s not worship tho. One root of worship reflects the concept of being prostrate … bowed flat on the ground in servitude before the (greater) Holy One. And the word HOLY reflects set apartedness. God, so Wholly Other, so Wholly Pure, Righteous, Just … Love deserves our utter adoration as we recognize God’s Wholly Otherness, which sets God in that special, virtually unreachable Holy place.
And yet, Adonai – our Holy Lord – chose to interact with us. To become One of us, to become sin for us so that there might be a closer relationship with us! Saul met Adonai on his way to persecute the Lord’s people. Moses met Adonai, really really met Adonai, on the back end of the very area he was hiding out from the Lord. That woman met Adonai when she broke past her imperfections, reached out for freedom at the hem of Jesus’ garment. Susannah (Luke met Adonai and made a career of support and discipleship.
Worship come from intimate knowledge and time in the presence of the Holy One. Worship involves acts of adoration and willingness to reflect aspects of the Holy One in our lives. Worship often translates into acts of devotion, even sacrifice. Worship takes our nithing and transforms it into everything; while turning our everything into nothing of value … for nothing is too great for our Lord.
Worship moves us past head knowledge to heart action and soul devotion.
How’s our worship?
In Christ.
