Nougat 11

Hi

We live in a world populated by hate speech and xenophobic language. It has become quite normal for us to hear persons with influence using profanity or similar expressions to describe persons they dislike. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to think about this.

“Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.” Romans‬ ‭8:33‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Alright. That’s serious business right there. In fact, we might even wish right away to cancel every bitter, accusatory, defamatory word spoken against us; in Jesus Name.

I know that perhaps we all have been down this road; especially when we’ve been accused or harassed by another. But what about us being the accusers?

Yes; us.

For Proverbs 18:21 assures us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. And James warns us to guard our tongues, because of the potential for creating mischief. We are angered by someone who ought to recognize our worth in whatever way; and our first instinct is to lash out. We abuse or manipulate those we consider our junior when they overstep their rank. Or we are still working on overcoming anger issues that spill over everywhere. How do we describe others? How do we refer to them when annoyed? Are those expressions God-worthy?

And what about those accusations that derive from us about our own selves? What then? For the caution issued to everyone – including us! God does not enjoy us destroying ourselves verbally; not even in jest. For it is as though we are rejecting the blessings of life outpoured, and by virtue thereof, rejecting God.

So, I pray that we bridle our tongues today; except for speaking life or seeking forgiveness?

Not by our might, but by God’s grace.

And for all those whom we’ve cursed with our tongues Lord, whether ourselves or others, we crave Your forgiveness. Hear us and restore our right standing with You we pray please Jesus amen.
