Hi

Some time ago, when watching a military based show, I recall seeing the soldier drinking from his helmet. I suspect that it’s not normally the done thing; but realize it is a very versatile piece of equipment. For, in addition to its official purpose, that of protecting the head, I could easily see someone using it in a pinch to cool themselves in the heat of the day by sluicing water over the head. In today’s Holy Nougat™️, we continue to look at the whole armour of God.

“Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Now here’s the fun part … we are saved by God’s grace because of our Faith. So when we strap on our helmet; our shield has to have already been in place. And the joy of salvation is that it is available to everyone. It is somewhat a one size fits all, as the premise of salvation is rooted in Christ becoming the substitution for our sins. In this regard, it is not about what we do to earn it; salvation is available to any who would believe.

One may wonder why Salvation is an essential equipment for the warrior. If you did, I’m so glad you asked. Salvation is a helmet, so it is protection for our thought life; what we think and believe. And one of the things the enemy of our souls uses as ammunition is – you guessed it – our thoughts. Oh yes. We get assailed by doubts and fears, including the question of whether we’re truly saved or if God would answer prayers for people like us. At least those are two popular themes that I’ve experienced and heard of in my interactions with others.

When we strap our helmet on, we KNOW that we Know Whose (God’s) and Who we are (believers in Jesus Christ) in Christ Jesus. We have no need to buy in to the enemy’s lies. Nope. No. Not one bit. We also have the add on of being able to claim all the benefits of salvation, including access to God and angelic presence in our lives.

And when our spirits are dry, we use that helmet as a canteen to Drink our fill of the Living Water 💦 , Jesus Christ. We can also recall our baptism by sluicing the same Living Water 💧 over our parched souls. That’s just uber awesomeness. Do you agree?

And with salvation, we know we are

  • saved from the deadly grip of sin to abundant life in Christ
  • saved with the capacity to do all things through Christ Who is our strength;

and perhaps best of all, we are

  • able to be in constant communion and communication with God through God’s Spirit (like, yay awesomeness!!!💫)

Now that’s some great reasons to keep our helmet on.

Tomorrow, all being well, we’ll consider the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.

Courage my dear.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
