The story thus far … After Moses goes hiding like a fugitive in the wilderness, he has a God encounter that will be the catalyst for his life-transforming experience. It is revealed that Moses was not intentionally seeking God, but God sought him – on purpose to fulfill God’s purpose for the Children of Israel. “Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.” Exodus‬ ‭3:7-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is worth noting that the Four points relate to God’s response to the Children’s plight. The first being Sight. Adonai (the Lord) is very clear: ‘I (God) have seen the oppression of My people …’ When we are in the midst of our struggle, it is so easy to assume that we are ‘back a God back’ (situated somewhere outside of God’s line of vision). Today however, God reminds us – we are visible. Our situation is SEEN! And when God declares that our cause has become visible, God is ready for action.

One might wonder whether God has vision problems for usually God’s response seems to come AFTER some time and not the very moment trouble starts. But delay, though uncomfortable, does not always mean denial of God’s support. Sometimes there’s a lesson in the waiting for us.

It may also be that we try our own solutions first and God becomes our last resort. For many of us, that is far often the fact. We try every DIY solution, effect our own ‘foolproof’ plan (often proving we were fools to try solving on our own), or even imitate other people’s way out. When in distress let’s opt to seek God’s face first.

The lesson might also be for the oppressor. It may be that, like Job, our life of faith is a testimony to the onlooker. We recall that each time the devil (Satan), went before God in the Book of Job, God’s question was the same: ‘Have you SEEN My servant Job?’ That was the comment of a proud Parent, not a blind, vengeful God!

There are times when we feel so alone in our situations, but God is very present. I urge us live with the consoling knowledge that God sees us and will act in due season. We do not give in to despair as ones who have no hope. We remain resolute and cry out to the God Who sees us.
