Nougat 15

I revert to the reflection on the Spirit of Truth … Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” John 14:17 NLT

Last night as I considered the Nougat, it registered that God’s Spirit also helps us to remain in the Truth. Thus, we may find that our walk with Jesus yields less sugar-coating of facts or white lies as we aim to be true to God, rather than others. This could be challenging for people -pleasers, who would rather do harm to themselves than hurt others with the truth. But that’s where ‘speaking the Truth in Love’ (Ephesians 4:15) comes in.

I recall being told several times that God’s Spirit is a gentleman, who won’t barge in uninvited. While this may be so, I know that God’s Spirit is associated with Wisdom, which in James 3 is described as pure and peace-loving. In opting for Truth spoken in Love, we open the door for transformation and personal growth.

Of course, some of us pause before addressing others in Truth for we KNOW our reality. And rather than afford others to tell us about our lives; we say nothing. While that has its merit, I commend Psalm 51:6, where David asserts that God desires us to be True to ourselves and when this happens, Wisdom follows. I assure us – God’s Spirit will keep it real, telling us the Truth about ourselves if we care to listen. For when we know ourselves, we can be honest in respect of others.

And that Truth-telling has a positive side. It’s not all ‘putting us right’! For there are times when God’s Spirit uses Truth to encourage us. Consider for example, the moments when nothing is going right and we’ve all but thrown in the towel. God’s Word reminds us that we are more than conquerors Through Jesus Who loves us and by God’s Spirit, Whom Jesus sent to support us. It is God’s Spirit Who reminds us about our righteousness in Christ and clothes us accordingly to cover our ‘filthy rags’.

So maybe we need God’s Spirit to lead us into all Truth – God’s own Truth; the Truth that transforms others and the Truth about ourselves in Christ Jesus. For, it is when we walk in God’s Truth that we find Freedom to be all God has purposed us to be, by God’s Spirit and Grace.

I pray that today we allow God’s Spirit to lead us into all Truth.
