Yesterday I noticed a pic posted by a friend on FB that spoke about child-like Faith. My mind ran to several scenarios of trust and open curiosity. And in some ways, that is what we’re called to be. Have you ever promised something to an old-enough child and seen their eager expectation the next time you get around them? Could that be a lesson for us in our spiritual lives? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 NLT
Though the original text speaks more specifically about ‘considering’, I want us to keep the phrase we’ve got from the New Living Translation. I’m intentionally taking ‘fix’ out of context and then using that context back in the nougat in the literary-spiritual context.
To fix generally means to repair. Given the stressors and stresses of the times; are there parts of our thought-lives that *urgently need* repairs? What are the negative patterns in need of transformation? Do we need an Attitude Overhaul to get us aligned to God’s Will, Ways, and Work in our lives? Let’s prayerfully ponder.
However, when we Fix our Thoughts on something, we have determined to be focused on it for a season (or even for-ever). So the other task for us is to
A: Revisit our Fixer-upper Thought-Life as well as our attitudes; and – using the list provided; in the nougat – and invite Jesus to ‘fix’ us. We’ll be pleasantly surprised to see what He does.
B: Examine our Thought-Lives and also our activities – What gets priority? Is it Jesus and our spiritual lives? If it’s other things, perhaps we could ask ourselves ‘Why has our focus shifted?’. For, when we do, it may be we need a different kind of Fixer-upper from Jesus.
May we find ourselves Focused and Fixed-up by God’s grace in Jesus.
