Nougat 20

How are you with distractions? Can you recognize them when they come your way? As the story continues, there’s a new development. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“Now one old prophet was living in Bethel. His son came and told him all the deeds that the man of God had done that day in Bethel and all the words that he had spoken to the king they related to their father. Then he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak tree. He said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” “I am,” he said.” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭13:11, 14‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Something is off about this prophet’s arrival. We’re still in Israel ie Jeroboam’s territory. Remember that legit prophets were gone over to Judah. Granted this is an older prophet and he might be safe; but given that he was unaware of young prophet; I think not.

What is very certain is he was on a mission and that the young prophet was included in the older man’s plans. At this point, we don’t know. But we know that the old prophet knows what God had instructed the unnamed prophet. And that message didn’t include stopping with anyone. Not even with an older, more experienced prophet.

I don’t know about you, but this is not what I expected to come next. I expected to hear that Jeroboam came to his senses or something. But here we are, trying to figure what is coming.

How about our own lives? Where are we? Do we have a clear sense of what’s coming next as we fulfill our What? Have we been met by others who are also in the household of faith? Have we been able to discern their motives? Or, better yet, have we remained focused on God as we pursue our What? For when we are focused; even what appears as distraction must align with God’s plan.

We pray God’s grace to keep us focused through the distractions and to help us discern what is of God in the seemingly distracting moments of life.
