In my childhood days, there was a hit song that was almost an anthem when we planned Friday devotions with ISCF. ‘Give Them All’ was a crowd favorite and we knew the words. The irony was many of us were just repeating words by rote; just as we sometimes do with today’s Holy Nougat
“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT
You see I have found that it is far easier to talk about giving God our cares than it is to actually give them to God. We will even give them to strangers, entrusting them with life stories, finances and personal details; while buying into the lie that God’s not concerned about our issues.
I’ve heard and seen us CEOing for God, and also consulting in God’s capacity without having made time to hear from God on the matter. Some of this may stem from not wanting to look stupid; thinking we already know what to do, or just plain oversight. That is not always wise however, and the end result is often telling. Take it from me – Been there; Done it, and trying to recover from the consequences.
For yielding to God is wisdom; allowing God’s will to prevail is self preservation; casting our cares is testimony! Yielding to God takes the burdens from us and places it squarely at Jesus feet. When God’s will is prioritized – even the No has merit. And as we cast the cares on God, we declare our faith in God’s process to God, to the world and to ourselves. For in the words of Evie Tornquist; when we commit our cares to Jesus, ‘He will turn our sorrows into joy’
