Where’s your confidence rooted? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In this letter to the Philippians, there’s a sense of joy that is somewhat different from the other epistles. With that being said, one could easily assume that all is well with the congregation. Until we read the our nougat. For me, it stands out as such an encouragement for the people in crisis. And that’s the hope that we’re focused on.

So, Ephesians 2:10 clearly states that we are are God’s workmanship (ie prized masterpiece). It doesn’t state that as a conditional sentiment, dependent on our behavior or God’s mood. Nope. It simply asserts that as God’s prized creation we each have special tasks which are positive in nature. I wonder, could this be the good work that God’s began in us? For if it is, then regardless of our status, we have work to do and work that God’s not yet done with us.

If we follow that train of thought, we will hopefully conclude that we are not alone even when it feels otherwise. For God’s with us, working things out. Since we are not alone, then life’s burdens don’t have to be all ours either. We have Someone Who’s rooting for us, Who roots us and is fully equipped to handle whatever comes our way.

Moreover, from Genesis 1 and 2, we also realize that our God is systematic in planning and pulling together the pieces that are critical for our existence. Hence, God established a routine that saw creation laid out in times and seasons, rather than just ‘abracadabra’ and every bit is done. Further we note that despite the timeliness of the creation process; God completed the plan and blessed it, for it was good (all of it). And even when the first humans messed up, God already had the contingency plan: Jesus. Oh yes indeed!

God’s own track record is proof of God’s stick-to-itivity. Whatever we face cannot ever be too overwhelming for God to handle. God’s grace, love and mercy is forever sufficient to support and uphold us. We have cause to be confident, just like the church at Philippi. And that’s more than reason to rejoice in whatever circumstance.
