Nougat 14

As we reflected on Jesus feeding His disciples that special Passover night, the Lord allowed my mind to wander a little bit. I saw parallels that might be a stretch but is worth reflecting on. Come with me and consider today’s Holy Nougat

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Give us today our daily bread.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Just think … Jesus is the Bread of Life, and we are told that the Bread of Life is given for us. We ask in Jesus’ model prayer to be given our daily Bread. Can we make a connection? Do we dare ask God for a daily dose of Jesus, our Bread of Life? I tell you I was almost ahead of myself when it struck me, for I know I need a daily dose (probably even minute by minute) of Jesus.

In my church, when the celebrant reminds us of Jesus’ words (ie the Words of Institution), s/he reminds us that as often as we eat and drink we proclaim Jesus’ death and resurrection until His return. Hence, we could partake of this special Passover meal daily, especially if Jesus is our Daily Bread!

What can a daily dose of Jesus mean for us today – Hmmn let’s see

A – bread was a staple in the lives of the people so Jesus becomes our point of reference in all we say/do

B – we noted that the bread was unleavened, symbolizing Jesus’ sinlessness so a daily dose of Jesus makes us sin less;

C – bread was an automatic provision in the wilderness so we can expect the automatic provision of the Comforter, Jesus’ Spirit, in our lives daily

D – bread represents nourishment so we are spiritually replenished and nourished even when we give of ourselves

E – that bread represents His gift of forgiveness from sin so we can accept eternal life in Jesus

F – that bread represents His prophecy that He will return so we are secure that Jesus will come again

G – that bread is a reminder of the new covenant in Christ’s blood so we have legitimate access to our Daily Bread and the throne of God

Give us today Yourself, our Daily Bread of Life dear Jesus. Amen
