God’s Spirit Intercedes

As I read Today’s Holy Nougat, I was reminded of a season when I fancied myself as tech savvy. So much so that I was enrolled in a Computer Studies diploma course, but my head was not aligned to programming. Unfortunately for me, programming was a major aspect of the course, and failing would have cost me the diploma.

I appealed to the lecturer, who then came to my rescue a few times. But he was responsible for all of us, so that didn’t always work. Then came ‘Faada’ and ‘Fatta’ – a part-time lab tech/senior programmer and a classmate who was a whizz at programming – to my rescue. Now, those guys knew what they were doing!

They understood computers, spoke ‘computerese’ (i.e., coding machine language), and because of their gifts, had some extra time to attend to me. Because they spoke computerese, they understood what the computer needed and, more critically, what I needed to say for the programme to work.

That’s what God’s Spirit does when allowed free reign in our lives. God’s Spirit is always in conversation with God, speaks Heavenly languages, and is willing to speak with God on our behalf.

Of course, I did not get that help entirely ‘free’. Those of you who’ve heard this before will recall that they needed help in Communication Skills, also a major requirement for graduation. We traded support.

The Spirit of God desires a closer relationship between us and God and seeks to live peaceably in our hearts.

Can we conceive a better trade-off? God’s Spirit dwelling at peace within us, therefore is always accessible to strengthen our relationship with God and help us to communicate with God, even when all we can find to say comes out in groans and moans?

Sounds like a win-win to me!
