It would not be considered strange if any of us is disquieted about all that’s happening in our communities, country, home, and the world at large. It truly is cause for concern. For some of us, this is also an invitation to discern the times and seasons. Over the next few days, we will be doing some reflections on the signs we ought to be looking for/at. Our focus will be on Matthew 24. Firstly, I invite us to consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
Matthew 24:36 NIV
[36] “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
No One Knows
I have found that despite His prolific use of parables, Y’shua was fairly straightforward with the disciples. I suspect that it was important to give them enough information so they were ready when the baton was passed to them. Yet, given their egos, it was probably necessary to ensure that they didn’t get too full of their own chosenness.
Moreover, He was often obliged to teach them alongside several non-believers (Y’shua knew His time was limited, and He had no special building just for teaching them). It is likely that some information was hidden in parables until they were revealed or explained. And, if course, some of what Y’shua said is still being interpreted.
Self-Check
What do we do – as current disciples of Y’shua – when we are uncertain of what Y’shua meant in a verse or passage? Do we go to the Source, or blissfully move on.
Application
With that being said about Y’shua speaking in parables, here’s something we ought to take note of. There are instances when Y’shua spoke very plainly. What He said in those instances are as clear as the ringing of church bells. We can’t miss His point at those times.
Siblings, when Y’shua Jesus says no one, that’s exactly what He means. Zero person, angelic or human. None. Nobody. So when He compounded that no one to include Himself, it means that anyone who can offer a clear date is fake.

Ego-driven fake
This doesn’t mean we can’t interpret the times and seasons around us. It simply means we can’t pin down Christ’s return to an exact date and time.
We can think of it this way
In Matthew 2, we’re told that some astronomers (Magi, wise men) knew beyond the shadow of doubt that a king would be born among the Jewish people. Not just any king, but One Who would save the people from their sins. They began to study the signs even more diligently than most of us study God’s Word. As they studied, the pattens became less and less random.
Then the sign that confirmed the prior pattens as well as the knowledges they had came. A star appeared. It was a special star. To them, it was like the pillar of fire that led the Children of Israel out of Egypt and into the Land of Promise. They followed the star. It led them to the King and also to Herod. Y’shua was already born. Their quest was not in vain.
All the information they had was accurate, but they did not know the exact date. Not the day nor the hour.
So we also watch.
We will pray.
We share Y’shua’s return with others.
Most of all, we repent of our own sins as we prepare. Because if no one knows the day nor the hour, we must always be in a state of readiness to meet our God.
Point to Ponder
If we were to be called up to meet Christ today, we must be ready. Let’s not be misguided by those naysayers or false prophets. We must know for ourselves what Y’shua prophesied will precede His return.
