When we hear of the signs of the times, we understand that to mean that the End is exactly that. Yet, having said that the End is come, Y’shua introduces more signs. Let’s reflect on these also. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
Matthew 24:15-16 NIV
[15] “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—
[16] then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
After the End
Matthew paints a picture that is totally fearsome. What follows The End is not only an abomination, it also results in desolation. An abomination is foul and detestable (despicable), and affiliated with idolatry. So, we should expect that which offends the very heart and nature of God, to follow. Because it is an abomination, it will result in enforced separation from God’s presence.
Point to Ponder
Will we have the guts to respond to such abject idolatry?
Application
Y’shua’s reference, also mentioned in Mark 13 and Luke 21, is based on Daniel’s prophetic vision. There are various thoughts on what this could be or mean, as some were convinced that it was fulfilled with the destruction of the temple. However, if the abomination is preceded by The End, then the destruction of the temple doesn’t quite align with Y’shua’s prophecy.
In Daniel, this abomination refers to the introduction of something so profane that it challenges the very foundation of the faith. My imagination sees something so very offensive, perhaps worse than the child sacrifice that was made to Molech. Should we be around for the time of the abomination that leads to desolation, it is important therefore, to ensure that we do not succumb to the powers of the day.
That requires our holding steadfast to God, and being fully acquainted with the Word.
Let’s not be caught unawares. We must remain steadfast, holding to that which is of God, and naught else.
