Siblings
So much more can be written about Christ’s return, and some of it has been written. We’ve reflected quite a bit on this, and I’m hoping that those who might have felt disquieted about current events are more at ease. If not, here’s one thing we must all understand, we need to ensure that we are ready for Christ’s return. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
Matthew 24:42 NIV
[42] “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
Keep Watch
No, it’s not exactly going to be like Christ’s birth announcement. Angels will not come to us while we’re in a field to announce Christ’s return. In fact, although the term is similar to the Lucan birth narrative, the Greek roots are different. The meanings are close, but not the same, because of what we’re watching (over/for). In Luke, the shepherds guarded or protected the sheep from danger. They kept watch over the sheep. Y’shua asked of the disciples, and by extension asks us, to be vigilant, that is, to take heed. We are keeping watch for His return.
Self-Check
Would we consider ourselves alert, aware or even vigilant regarding the signs of Christ’s return? Why/ not?
Application
The fact is siblings, while we might not make this our life’s goal, being aware and alert comforts us as life unfolds around us, because we know our Redeemer. Instead of being disheartened by current events, we have the assurance that some of them are birth pangs. Although some of what we see is undesirable, it serves as a reminder that we must make our final preparations for Christ’s return.
If we are vigilant, we won’t miss the signs.
If we recognise the signs, we will have a sense of the end.
If we have a sense of the end, we will press on with the work assigned by Christ.
If we press on with the work assigned, He will find us worthy at His return.
If we are found worthy, we will be rewarded when we join Him.
Prayer
Lord, help us to watch, discern, and pray, so that we are ready to meet You on Your return.
